Ok I been looking at RallyX for a bit now and really want to get into it. So yesterday I bit the bullet and picked up a car to start with. Its a 86 rx7 thats been sitting for quite some time.

Thats how I brought it home but I knew there was a jew under there somewhere.

So I got my crew on it right away

And what do you know!

Not bad for $400 bucks?

So now I have to gut it, put a cage in it, upgrade the suspension, tires, brake and do a bunch of mechanical work. But it should be at a rally event soon!

So afterwork I go a little bit done on the car. I got most of the interior out and the engine bay cleaned out better.

I found about 3 dollars in change! bonus. Now the car is less than 400.

I found some shoddy wiring. A wire nut .....really......

Also found where some field mice had some snacks.

No weight in the back now. I need to find some decent rally tires. Anyone have some suggestions on type and size. I currently have 185/70/14 on now.

Thats it for today time to close up shop.

Thanks Charles but right now I'm just redoing the stock stuff to keep the costs down.

Some more progress on declutering the engine bay. I'm getting rid of everything that I can.

I got some boxes o parts in! woohoo

Putting new rotors, calipers, pads, hose and master cylinder

I'm hoping to have this thing ready by the 15th rally.

I got it running! I had been doing the old atf apex seal soak for the pass week. Talk about a huge smoke cloud on start up.
I got my seats in yesterday so i need to fab up some brackets and finish the rear brakes but its hard to do on mothers day

Well a little update i tore into the engine because the rear rotor had no compression and found the apex springs broke on 2 seals. Also the rotor housing is trashed do to chatter. So I need a new motor and I had no luck finding a descent one locally. It just so happens that I have a sbc 350 with a Muncie m-22 thats been sitting idle in my 31 ford so I think I going to pull the trigger and throw that in the rx. I know many rotorhead are sick to the stomach right now but its the lowest cost alternative I have right now. I plan on cutting the fire wall and setting the v8 as far back as I can to help with weight distribution. I wonder how many horseys the stock third member can handle on the dirt?

This rotorhead has no problem with V8 swaps. How about putting the engine behind the driver

That happens in S2000's and will probably happen with a V8 powered RX7. Sounds like it's going to be a funny car....should only needs 2nd gear for rallycross or autocross with all the torque.
BTW great find at $400.

It's not that unusual. We had a 2nd gen w/ LT1 that came to several of our events. For awhile they were marketing the crossmember. Last time I talked to him, he was going to do a 3rd gen LS1. [Drool]
IIRC: You will want a Turbo II diff, to handle the torque.
